Windows 10 Niche Hidden Feathers
Windows 10 is still in the early stages, technical preview is now available to download and install but a lot of stuff is subject to change—not to mention but there are tons of consumer features haven't talked about yet. But they gave us a short look into some of the new stuff, most of which looks quite good. Here's what you'll find…some hidden features…
Windows 10 is coming with Universal Search in Start Menu. The Search tool at
the bottom of the Start menu now not only searches your programs and files, but
also looks up related results on the Internet.
Now with Windows 10 Virtual Desktops, instead
of having multiple windows open on top of each other on one desktop, you can
set up a whole other virtual desktop for those programs to reside in. Set up
one desktop specifically for home and leave your apps such as Netflix and
Amazon open, and create another desktop for work on which you keep Word, Excel
and Internet Explorer open.
Microsoft
has been working on a voice assistant called Cortana for its desktop version. But right now it is
unavailable for technical preview version, but it couldn't hurt to make sure
your computer has a microphone before the full version drops.
In Windows 10, the option is now available to Pin the Recycle Bin to
the Start Menu and Taskbar with a simple right-click or using drag option, whichever you choose.
File History is Now Its Own Tab in Properties, while this backup feature isn't new,
you can now access a particular file's previous versions by right-clicking it,
selecting Properties, and clicking the brand new Previous Versions tab. Super
handy.
Microsoft’s Snap View multitasking feature has been
improved to Quadrant-style
Split Screen Multitasking
and allow to tile up windows to the four corners of your screen. The system
will even suggest what other open apps you can use to fill up available
space.
Metro apps, modern apps, immersive UI apps, Windows
8-style apps, Store apps, and now “Universal
Apps” — now
these are convenient to use on desktop PCs. That will be fixed in Windows 10,
where those apps can run in Windows on the desktop. But for this feature you
have to pay $4.99 for installing ModernMix, you can also start with free
trial version.
Windows 10 are coming with a Better Command Prompt with Ctrl and Shift key shortcuts. These add features
like Ctrl+V to paste, Shift to select text, and transparency to make your
Command Prompt look better.
Continuum is one of the best
feature windows10 have. Continuum is an on-the-fly mode for 2 in 1 devices that
can automatically change mode if it detects there is suddenly no keyboard
attached. For example, a back button appears to help you navigate the Desktop
with touch if the keyboard is removed.
While Windows 10’s
rumored Notification Tray isn’t yet in the Technical Preview, there are some new pretty
toasts/notifications that
pop up in the top right corner of the screen. The new Notification Tray might
only be coming to the Metro interface.
